Golf Betting: Best 2020 US Masters Tips - An early look at Who will win the Masters at Augusta

An early look at the best options who might make a run at winning The Masters at Augusta in 2020.... and 2021 - scroll down for preview..

New: ahead of The Masters 2021, take a look at my new book all about golf betting, available now on Amazon:

The antepost 2020 US Masters betting markets are already formed and with half decent terms on offer, I'll take a look at some of the potential contenders below, and at who will possibly win the Masters at Augusta next April. I'm flagging up some early Masters betting value with players I think are currently overpriced in the market, and players who I think will have moved up a level in 2020.

Take a look at the generic Masters betting market and the Masters exchange market, as well as my views on the current projected top 10 US Masters rankings. I've done some early course and tournament profiling, outlining the player types to target rather than just the actual Masters Tips. Below is the top 10 in the 2020 US Masters betting at time of writing...

Best bet to win the Masters 2020

I wouldn't differ from popular opinion too much at the moment towards the top end of the 2020 Masters betting market. Brooks Koepka is tipped as favourite to win the Masters at the time of writing but I think Jon Rahm and Rory McIlroy may be the best of the bunch, and the two battling it out for favouritism come April. One player towards the top of the betting stands out like a sore thumb for me though:

The outlier is Patrick Cantlay at 30/1 approximately. I absolutely love Cantlay's course fit profile for Augusta and at 30/1 each way he is a good Masters 2020 tip, and offers some very decent betting value for me. Cantlay has all the best attributes required to win The Masters, from the lovely power draw off the tee to the strong mental attitude and streaky putting. He ranked 21st in driving distance in 2019 on the PGA tour but was higher than that for much of the year. He was 14th in putting from 10-15 feet - a vital stat at Augusta. Cantlay recorded a top 10 at the 2019 Masters and is tipped to go well in 2020.

US MASTERS 2020 Target player profile tips

At Augusta We are always looking for a dynamic player with prodigious length off the tee, a strong mentality and good proximity with the irons. A right to left shot shape is an advantage, and the ability to come in high with approaches. Players strong in holing out from 5-15 feet should prevail. Par 5 performance usually proves key when looking at the best fit for who will win the Masters.

The course - Augusta National, par 72 7,475 yards

Key features: Wide landing areas between a strong treeline laden with pinestraw. No rough to speak of, either along fairways or around the surfaces. Large multi-tiered undulating bentgrass greens, usually playing over 13' on the stimp. Generally fast and firm conditions but two out of the last 8 or so editions have seen a softer set up. Amen corner - a tough trio of holes around the turn that can make or break a round.

Premium on: length off the tee, approach shot accuracy (potential second shot course). Putting from 5-15 feet, par 5 performance.

Apart from the earlier tip Cantlay, it's possibly Cameron champ 80/1 each way who looks the best bet for the 2020 US Masters. Champ is a player i think fits the Augusta course profile well and I had him backed a long time before the off at the 2019 Masters but his form dipped and he didn't make the Masters field. I'm not giving up just yet though. Champ has since returned to the winners circle at the Safeway Open despite family and personal issues. He led the driving distance stats on tour last season and tops them in the 2020 season at the time of writing. He plays with a fade off the tee but grew up using a draw and can play both ways easily. His biggest strength is his irons though - key at Augusta. He's possibly the standout player to tip in terms of expected value and potential price movement...

What is expected Strokes Gained Course Fit ?

Bryan pioneered the concept of Expected Strokes Gained Course Fit (xSGF) in golf betting. xSGF can be predicted using my model below. For prospective golf betting tips it projects ahead of time how many shots a player is expected to pick up per round on average on a particular golf course. It's weighed against a neutral golf course of the same rating.

What is Progressive Form in Golf Betting?

Progressive form in golf betting differs from current form in that players are showing a trend in the right direction in their recent scoring. Trending form has a high predictive value in golf betting and can also catch players under the radar at an inflated price vs their true betting odds.
