Honda Classic Golf Picks 2012

PGA National is the venue once again for the Honda Classic this week, a venue that played the toughest outside of the majors in 2011. Scoreboards down the years resemble that of major competition and avoiding mistakes is the premium over making birdies, especially down the stretch which includes the infamous Honda Classic "Bear trap". Ball striking, patience, accuracy and intelligent play will all be key factors at this year's Honda Classic

Ladbrokes are going e/w places 1-6this week for the Honda Classic and most prices will be with them. Free £50 bet for new customers.

2012 Honda Classic Picks
Pick 1: 0.75pts e/w Justin Rose @ 33/1 Ladbrokes - £50 free bet
T3 at the Honda Classic in his last outing at PGA National in 2010, T13 at the NT Open two weeks ago and ranking T22 in par 4 performance in 2011, Rose grabs my attention here due to his high ball flight and ability to stay out of trouble. Approach shots will be difficult at the Honda Classic this week and those with the ability to get the ball to land softer will have an advantage.

Pick 2: 0.5pts e/w Mark Wilson @ 50/1 Ladbrokes - £50 free bet
As steady as they come, Mark Wilson is a former winner of the Honda Classic at PGA National. He has four top twenties this year already including a win at the Humana and a third in last week's WGC matchplay where his all round game looked solid. Wilson ranks 4th in GIR% this year and 11th in the all round and as mentioned, keeping mistakes off the card will be key this week.

Pick 3: 0.5pts e/w Robert Allenby @ 40/1 Ladbrokes - £50 free bet
A very obvious choice this week coming off the back of an eight hole playoff loss on a course that didn't play too dissimilar to how PGA National will set up. Allenby is a regular feature on the Honda Classic Leaderboard down the years with multiple top tens and it's hardly surprising given he's been one of the best in the game from tee to green in the last fifteen years. Course knowledge will give him a big advantage here.

Pick 4: 0.5pts e/w YE Yang @ 40/1 Ladbrokes - £50 free bet
Continuing the theme of solid, intelligent players, Yang has posted a Honda Classic win and a 2nd place finish here in the last three years; the course obviously sets up brilliantly for his game. Signs of form beginning to creep into his swing this year and always one to watch for on tough courses.

Pick 5: 0.5pts e/w Robert Karlsson @ 66/1 Ladbrokes - £50 free bet
I'm casting my mind back to the St. Jude last year where Karlsson gave a driving display second to none over the first three rounds. Himself and Frazer blitzed the field in that one and similar to Justin Rose, Karlsson's high ball flight combined with his long hitting are the attributes that stand out for me for the Honda Classic. Game looked in good shape last week, demolishing Jacobsen in the matchplay. Mental toughness and experience should stand Karlsson in good stead. Big e/w price with 6 places on offer.

Honda Classic Sleeper Pick
Pick 6: 0.25pts Charlie Wi e/w @ 80/1 (bodog - 6 places) Two top 10's at the Honda Classic in the last three years and posted a solo 2nd at Pebble Beach, Wi's consistent striking and experience may make this price look a little large come Sunday night.

Don't forget Ladbrokes are going e/w places 1-6for the Honda Classic this week and they're one of my top recommended golf betting accounts. Much appreciated if you open an account through my links.

Angles and Edges: a journey through the evolution of golf betting and the markets
Bryan Nicholson is the pioneer of the progressive form and course fit ratings for golf betting, with the associated progressive form model and course fit profiling model. Bryan is the author of the annual course fit profiling manual and #1 golf betting book Angles & Edges.

What is expected Strokes Gained Course Fit ?

Bryan pioneered the concept of Expected Strokes Gained Course Fit (xSGF) in golf betting. xSGF can be predicted using my model below. For prospective golf betting tips it projects ahead of time how many shots a player is expected to pick up per round on average on a particular golf course. It's weighed against a neutral golf course of the same rating.

Golf Betting Tips Model

Input up to date player and course data (from the upcoming course fit manual 2024) into this interactive golf betting model. My course fit profiling model for golf betting tips uses highly evolved golf nuance and betting intuition, precise parameters and inputs based on Bayesian analysis, plus years of empirical evidence through observing, betting and documenting golf and stats.

What is Progressive Form in Golf Betting?

Progressive form in golf betting differs from current form in that players are showing a trend in the right direction in their recent scoring. Trending form has a high predictive value in golf betting and can also catch players under the radar at an inflated price vs their true betting odds.
