AUSTRIAN GOLF OPEN Betting Preview /Picks

Soren Hansen eyeing another win The golf quietens down a bit this week with a break before the final leg of the playoffs in America and with most of the European Tour big hitters deciding to give the Austrian Open a miss.

That leaves Soren Hansen as the standout player in the Austrian Open Field in terms of quality, with home favourite Marcus Brier also strongly fancied due to his local knowledge, course form and support. I'll be backing neither of course as I don't see any value there.

Nic's Value Picks man to beat: Soren Hansen
A cut above most other players in the field and desperate to put an end to his winless streak. Finish ahead of soren this week and you may well be holding the trophy

Austrian Open Course - La Fontana G.C
Playing at just over 7000 yards long, noone is at a particular advantage, except of course for the aforementioned Marcus Brier who lives only 45 minutes away and has had much success on it. With the Austrian open this year being played later in the season, the rough is expected to be up and the greens expected to be much firmer than usual so the premium will be on accuracy off the tee and play around the greens.

FREE Austrian Open Value Picks:
-1pt E/W Thomas Levet @ 25/1 - Thomas is just coming into form again and this is the type of course he loves.
Book:

-1pt E/W Brett Rumford @ 80/1 - 2 weeks ago at Crann Rumford fired a first round -9 but failed to push on from there. Brilliant around the greens and with wins under his belt, that's a monster of a price
Book:

-1pt E/W Nick Doherty @ 25/1 - As mentioned in last week's preview, Doherty reckons he's striking the ball as well as ever so with the rust cleared off his game(hopefully) after a 3 week break, and in this weak field, he could be challenging sunday
Book:

-1pt E/W Raphelin Jacquelin @ 40/1 - Jacquelin in decent form and quite simply is one of the better players in the field. Good price.
Book:

-1pt E/W Ross McGowan @ 50/1 - Great tournament last time out in Crann and could go low around here if he continues it
Book:

Sleeper Watch
1.5pts Brend Wiesberger Top 20 finish @ 15/2 (tipped to do well on OLBG) - Brend is a local and a representative of Fontana G.C. He finished 41st at the Johnny walker and 13th last week on the challenge tour in the dutch futures.

Golf Player Profiles

Please note that player attribute ratings are derived from the official PGA Tour and European Tour golf stats, and updated with a rolling average each golf betting year for precision.

Bryan Nicholson is the pioneer of the progressive form and course fit ratings for golf betting, with the associated progressive form model and course fit profiling model. Bryan is the author of the increasingly popular annual course fit profiling manual and #1 golf betting book Angles & Edges and runs the Sharp Sports Bettors Blog.

What is expected Strokes Gained Course Fit ?

Bryan also pioneered the concept of Expected Strokes Gained Course Fit (xSGF) in golf betting. xSGF can be predicted using my model below. For prospective golf betting tips it projects ahead of time how many shots a player is expected to pick up per round on average on a particular golf course. It's weighed against a neutral golf course of the same rating. For example: Sam Horsfield at Celtic Manor vs TPC Southwind. This number will also portray ability level in terms of strokes gained total. Click "find out more" under the course fit golf betting model for info.

What is Progressive Form in Golf Betting?

Progressive form in golf betting differs from current form in that players are showing a trend in the right direction in their recent scoring. Trending form has a high predictive value in golf betting and can also catch players under the radar at an inflated price vs their true betting odds. For example - a player shows form of T40 - 24 - 24, but last week he was in the leading PGA Tour group on Sunday with Tiger Woods and had a bad round due to nerves. His finishing position may not fully capture his actual form... See more with our calculators and betting tools
